Originally
built in 1895 as the main building for Tempe Normal, Old Main is
the oldest building on the Arizona State University Campus. Work
under this contract will restore the building exterior, and convert
the building interior for use as the University’s Alumni Center.
The scope of work includes the demolition of an unfortunate 1952
addition, and the restoration of the original 1895 north facade.
An addition will be constructed at the south of the building to
provide an additional exit stair, an elevator, and restrooms. This
addition also provides an important functional entrance and is the
set piece of a new terrace for receptions and other university events.

The interior of the building
will be reconfigured to provide office of the alumni Association, and
meeting rooms for alumni functions. The historic ballroom on the third
floor, which was converted to offices decades ago will be restored.
Redesign
of the historic college green, extending from the mall south of
Old Main, is also included in this project.
