Projects:  B.F. Goodrich Corporate Headquarters

goodrich01

The L-shaped building was designed to express a sense of monumentality and permanence that is both low-key and cost conscious. It overlooks several small ponds amidst the rolling terrain of the 107-acre Kinross Lakes corporate park in Richfield Village, southeast of Cleveland. Located on the flattest, highest point of the site, the building offers significant views of the distance.

The design's dominant feature is a three-story executive wing sheathed in horizontal bands of ruddy sandstone. A dining room, clad in brushed aluminum, leans out from the top story of the facade, casting a dramatic shadow.

Windows on the executive wing are arranged in a seemingly random though deliberate pattern, providing contrast and visual interest from the rest of the building.

An adjacent two-story office wing is clad in sandstone and features rows of windows and green-tinted glass. Clerestory panels in milky white glass sends soft, natural daylight deep inside. A wedge-shaped roof overhang resembles an airplane wing, a metaphorical expression related to the client's leadership in the aerospace industry. The cantilevered entrance canopy also extends the theme, shaped the a sleek boomerang.

Inside, the space is organized into an equal combination of enclosed and open offices for the more than 110 headquarters staff. Underground there are 150 parking spaces.

Surrounding the new complex is a carefully conceived landscape of grasses and wildflowers, walking trails, arbors and benches for both employees and visitors to enjoy.
