Projects: MK Ferguson Plaza

This project involved rehabilitation of the landmark former U.S. Post Office Building in Cleveland (renamed MK-Ferguson Plaza for its prime tenant); integration of the building into the Tower City complex, a 6.5-million square foot mixed-use complex adjacent to Cleveland’s Public Square; and space planning and interior design of MK-Ferguson’s corporate offices and production facilities. The original building incorporated five full floors with a partial mezzanine. Each floor is approximately 100,000 square feet, with tall floor-to-floor heights (19-22 feet). The conversion of the warehouse-like space to office use necessitated some demolition of the interior to create two sky lit atria, and retrofitting and introducing natural light onto the fifth (originally mechanical) floor.

By capturing the fifth floor for tenant use and adding a new 40,000 square foot mezzanine, a total of 110,000 additional square feet of usable area was developed.

The MK-Ferguson portion of the first floor level is partitioned for conventional offices; floors two, three or five are open-plan drafting rooms with complete flexibility for rapid organization of systems furniture for projects teams. Corporate offices and conference facilities occupy a portion of the fourth floor (maximizing views to the Terminal Tower and Cuyahoga River), and the balance of the first floor (East Atrium and historic lobby) is allocated for the public.
